Travel Diary - Day 4 - Mehrangarh fort, Jodhpur

After a good night sleep which exceeded 8 hours, I woke up around 8:45 am and then proceeded to Mehrangarh fort after washing up. I caught an auto which was near the Ranbanka Palace  Hotel, where I was staying. In 20 minutes time I was climbing the small hill on top of which stood the imposing structure of the impregnable Mehrangarh fort. After getting tickets, I proceeded to tour and enjoyed the collection of artefacts, weapons, portraits, textiles and the history associated with the fort.
There are lots of cannons on the walls of the fort along with a few temples. The view of Jodhpur city from the fort wall is breathtaking and the blue city, apt to it's name appears blue. The blue color of the city has to do with the blue paints which has been applied to the walls of numerous houses, which lie at the foot of the Mehrangarh fort. There were musicians along the fort walls and corridors performing folk music and local craftsman selling traditional dolls.
The fort and palace museum is a well maintained one with numerous awards and accolades which have been showered upon it by UNESCO and other organisations and trusts.  It is without a doubt a great place where the history, culture and tradition of this region has been well preserved for the posterity.
